Sciences & Engineering Building

Project Information

Constructed in 2010 at the Gold Coast, the Science, Engineering and Architecture Building sustainability features include:

  • Recycled timber and carpet
  • Low energy lighting and self dimming lights
  • Low-flow taps
  • Harvesting condensate water from air conditioning to use for irrigation of surrounding grounds
  • An energy management system to control air conditioning and lights
  • Building orientation based on sun study findings.

This building also houses the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility.

The west wing houses science and engineering laboratories and an architecture teaching studio; the eastern wing accommodates administration and teaching spaces. Connecting east and west is a four-storey screen structure – a naturally ventilated space that identifies and shades the entry.
