Project Information
The Heron Island Research Station (HIRS) was decimated by a fire in 2007, caused when an oxygen tank exploded.
The University of Queensland engaged Building Certifiers Australia to certify the staged re-construction of the development.
HIRS is a world class research and teaching facility located on the magnificent Great Barrier Reef. The HIRS can accommodate 150 visitors in a variety of accommodation styles. Research at HIRS is facilitated by modern research facilities and equipment featuring a range of laboratories.
The project was awarded both a Regional Commendation and a State Architecture Award in 2011.
